Mets Score Late to Win, 5-3
|
Clayton Kershaw had a strong outing for the New York Mets against the Boston Red Sox at Citi Field. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 5-3 win. Luis Gil, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. New York is now 66-73.
New York took a 4-3 lead on Ryan Mountcastle's 16th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Mountcastle hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Boston pitcher Aroldis Chapman visibly frustrated.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Mountcastle.
