Blue Jays Take Down Yankees, 3-2
|
The New York Yankees got a sterling performance from pitcher Sonny Gray, but the Toronto Blue Jays still prevailed, 3-2. Gray threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. After today's action, Toronto sits at 64-78; New York slips to 67-75.
Toronto used the timely hitting of Willson Contreras to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blue Jays on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Contreras. "You've got to get results."
