Late Rally by Padres Locks Up 3-1 Win
|
The San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
Behind an impressive start by Freddy Peralta, San Diego beat Cincinnati, 3-1. San Diego reliever Ian Hamilton picked up the win, raising his record to 7-1. Trevor Rogers was tagged with the loss.
Freddy Fermin was 1-3 for San Diego. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Fermin had a clutch at-bat. Facing Cincinnati hurler Paul Sewald, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Padres a 2-1 lead.
"We're playing like we're capable of," said San Diego manager Matt O.
By defeating Cincinnati, the third-place Padres improved to 82-63.
