Cardinals Lose to Pirates, 5-3
|
Pittsburgh and St. Louis duked it out and the Pirates came out victorious.
The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up a win at Busch Stadium, taking down the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-3. Starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin was a big reason why. The winner was Gonsolin. He threw 6.0 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was James Paxton. Collin [UNRATED] McHugh earned his 30th save in 34 chances.
In the top of the third inning, the Pirates grabbed the lead when Christian Yelich rapped a two-out single. Pittsburgh was trailing 1-0, when Yelich hit a 2-run single off James Paxton to put his team in front, 2-1.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Yelich.
The 4th-place Pirates lifted their record to 63-87.
