Mets Slap 12-4 Loss on Washington
The New York Mets besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Washington first baseman Jonathan Aranda by beating the Nationals, 12-4, at Citi Field. Aranda was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. With the win over Washington, the Mets improved to 88-67.

Jacob Young had a big 2-run double for the Mets in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Justin Verlander, who finished 5th in the AL in innings pitched with 208.1 in 2023, and swatted a double to right. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 4-1.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Young said. "We did a good job of that today."
