Pittsburgh Beats New York, 2-0
|
Tony Gonsolin was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at Yankee Stadium. In fact, the Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander was instrumental in his team's 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees. The winning pitcher was Gonsolin, now 8-15. He tossed 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. The Pirates, now 68-92, have won 4 in a row.
The Pirates got a big at-bat from shortstop Trevor Story. For the game, Story was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the second, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Gonsolin. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
