Detroit Upended, 7-0, by Boston
|
The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers, 7-0, at Fenway Park. Boston third baseman Brendan Donovan had an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Jimmy Herget, now 2-7, was credited with the win in 1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. With the win, Boston has a record of 80-82. Detroit falls to 99-63.
Jorge Polanco had a big 2-run double for the Red Sox in the bottom of the second inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from Luis Castillo, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in complete games with 1, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 28th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Donovan. "You've got to get results."
