Athletics Drop White Sox, 5-3
|
Guaranteed Rate Field was the site of the home opener for the Chicago White Sox. The contest featured a prime matchup between Bowden Francis of the visiting Oakland Athletics and Cole Ragans of the White Sox. The final score was 5-3, the Athletics getting the win. Bowden Francis turned in the best performance. In 5.1 innings, Francis surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Robert Stephenson was credited with the save for Oakland, his 1st of the season.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Royce Lewis? The Oakland third baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Athletics on top, 2-0. For the game, Lewis had 2 doubles and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Lewis called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
