The New York Yankees downed the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-1, at Yankee Stadium. Stellar pitching by Michael Wacha had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Wacha yielded 1 run over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-0. With the loss, Milwaukee drops to 2-1.
Spencer Steer had a big 3-run home run for the Yankees in the bottom of the sixth inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a cutter from 36-year old right-handed pitcher Merrill Kelly and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Yankees on top, 4-0.
"Felt great, felt really good," said Wacha.
