Blue Jays Rack Up 5-1 Win Versus Washington
|
The Toronto Blue Jays rode a solid performance from 29-year-old starting pitcher Justin Steele to a win, beating the Washington Nationals, 5-1, at Rogers Centre. The winning pitcher was Steele, now 1-0. He tossed 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 7. With the loss, Washington sinks to 2-4.
Wyatt Langford had a big bases-clearing double for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the third inning. With Toronto leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from Justin Verlander, who finished 5th in the AL in innings pitched with 208.1 in 2023, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blue Jays ahead, 5-0.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Steele said.
