Padres Win, 4-2, Versus Chicago
|
Petco Park was the site of a competitive game between the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres.
The Padres grabbed a win, 4-2, at Petco Park, overcoming a fine effort from Chicago pitcher Jesus Luzardo. Luzardo went 7 innings and allowed no runs. San Diego reliever Clarke Schmidt picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. David Bednar took the loss. Ryan Walker closed out the game, earning his 4th save.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Yandy Díaz came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Chicago pitcher Chad Green, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Diego on top, 3-2.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Díaz. "And not try to do too much."
The defeat makes Chicago 13-6.
