Pittsburgh Beaten, 3-1, by Washington
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Washington Nationals and the Pittsburgh Pirates, 31-year old right-handed pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. was the difference-maker. The Washington right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. The Pirates drop to 6-14.
Had Michael Conforto not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Conforto hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Nationals.
"Watch and learn," said Conforto. "This is what good pitching looks like."
