Sunday, September 21st , 2025
Some days you can't have it all, as Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Zach McKinstry discovered when he cracked three homers against the Boston Red Sox, and still lost.
"I have mixed emotions about this game," he said. "It's great to hit three homers, but it's hard to be happy when you lose the game."
The 30-year-old got his name in the league record books, but the Red Sox walked away with the triumph, 7-5, at Tropicana Field. McKinstry finished the day with 3 hits in 3 at-bats and 3 RBIs.
"I got three balls to hit and nailed all three of them," he said in the postgame interview.
Zach McKinstry hit a solo-shot off Lucas Giolito in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Lucas Giolito in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Lucas Giolito in the 6th and walked in the 8th.
In 141 games this season, McKinstry has batted at a .226 pace with 109 hits and 7 home runs.
