Gimenez Slams 5 Hits for New York
Friday, June 14th , 2024
After his 5-hit effort at Fenway Park was tarnished by New York's 11-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox, second baseman Andres Gimenez told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win."
He didn't get the win, but the 25-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Red Sox.
"His swing is getting there," said Yankees skipper Darrell S after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Andres did that to perfection and we wasted it."
Andres Gimenez doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This year, Gimenez has hit at a .274 clip with 71 hits, 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 30 runs scored.
