In the twilight of his career, 35-year-old Anthony Rizzo of St. Louis recaptured some of the old magic last week and came away with the National League Player of the Week Award.
"I've been playing since I was a kid," Rizzo told reporters, "but you're never too old to feel the thrill of success."
Rizzo outpaced the rest of the league's hitters last week, reeling off 12 hits in 27 at-bats, 2 home runs, and 9 RBIs to stake his claim to the award.
Rizzo is hitting .342 so far this season with 30 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He has 38 hits including 11 home runs, 12 walks and .425 OBP.
