Matos Goes 5-for-8
Thursday, September 18th , 2025
The Pensacola Blue Wahoos downed the Mississippi Braves, 7-3, at Trustmark Park, in spite of the best efforts of Mississippi right fielder Luis Matos. Matos lashed the ball all over the park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with a 5-for-8 line -- and a loss.
"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," he said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."
Asked if he would adjust his strategy next time the Blue Wahoos face Matos, Pensacola manager said "absolutely not."
"Our strategy was to not give him good pitches to hit," he said. "We didn't do that, and he worked us over. Thankfully, we won anyway, and next time we'll pitch to him better."
Luis Matos singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 9th, flied out in the 11th, grounded out in the 13th, flied out in the 15th and singled in the 18th.
This year, Matos has hit at a .390 clip with 87 RBIs, 3 home runs and 84 runs scored.
