Hit Parade: Smith-Njigba Pops 5 Hits Friday, May 23rd , 2025 A jubilant Canaan Smith-Njigba joined the postgame press conference at Regions Field to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Birmingham Barons pitching staff he had just vanquished. "It may not have looked like it," said the Biloxi Shuckers right fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different." That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 7-2 Shuckers win. "He made it look easy," said , manager of the Barons. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously." Canaan Smith-Njigba singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
