GCL News: The Offseason Begins

It's a bittersweet time for baseball fans -- the joy of having watched the final GCL championship game being played is balanced by the realization that it's all over for another season. So begins the offseason, where the winners bask in the glow of their success while the losers take stock of their performance and begin to lay plans for next year. Whether or not those plans will bear fruit is something that only time will tell.

Phillies West Sweep Philadelphia E (GCL) in Round 3

For the Philadelphia W (GCL) Phillies West, it was a joyful time; for the Philadelphia E (GCL) Phillies East, it was gloom and doom.
With a 7-5 win at Field of the Pipeliners, Philadelphia W (GCL) closed out the championship 3-0 over Philadelphia E (GCL).
The Phillies West have now won their 1st league championship in franchise history. The streets around the Phillies West' stadium were a mob scene, filling quickly with fans, while banners and flags were held high and waved proudly.
"It's unbelievable for us, our great fans, and all of Philadelphia W (GCL)," said a smiling owner The owner of the Philadelphia W (GCL) Phillies West. "The guys really put their heart and soul into this season and it paid off for them."
In a somewhat somber and dejected Phillies East clubhouse, manager said his team "just didn't get the job done."
"The Phillies West played as good as any team I've seen and deserve to be champions," he said.
The champs finished the regular season 29-29 and claimed second place in the Northwest Division.
